WHERE ART and MUSIC COLLIDE
A weekend filled with inspiration, good times + creativity.
MUSIC LINEUP
Curated and hosted by Concord music aficionado and advocate Dave Hughes, producer of The Beat of Diablo, Creative Concord’s 2024 music lineup included some of the Bay Area’s top original artists.
SOUL GLITCH
Soul Glitch is a multi-sensory journey that takes live Electro-Pop into unexplored territories. A synergy of acoustic instruments, synthesizers, and audio effects in a real-time re-mix of live performance delivers an unshakable reminder of what is possible when you disrupt the established framework of artistic creation.
Skinny hendrixx + the earthtones
Skinny Hendrixx has performed around the world for over 20 years as a solo artist. Combining his original hip hop material with live instrumentation from his band, The Earthtones, the group embraces a form of musical expression that transcends the hip hop genre with groovy sounds of bass, guitar, violin, horns, keys, and Skinny’s signature vocal flow.
CHIKA DI
Colombian-born, California-based recording artist and songwriter Chika Di blends sounds of traditional Latin, electronic, afro, pop, and reggaeton that are complemented by her powerful vocals and high energy live sets. Her music has landed syncs with the hit tv series “Euphoria”, “Generation +” and the movie “Beautiful Wedding”.
emily afton
Emily Afton is a queer multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter and performer with roots across California. Her nostalgia-infused alt-pop has been described by NPR as “...wonderful, wonderful electro-pop that’s weary of life, but positive," and draws influence from a wide musical spectrum including the likes of Fiona Apple, Frank Ocean, and Robyn.
THE SESHEN
The Seshen is a six-piece band whose songs exist between the lines: in the space between waking and dreaming, ego and collective consciousness, at that blurred horizon where earth meets sea meets sky. With silvery vocals and cerebral yet danceable rhythms, their music pulls from a deep well of electronic influences, R&B, and indie rock.
PAPER KAYAK
Closing out the Art & Music Jam weekend, Paper Kayak is the ultimate good vibes band playing reggae and island-infused world music. Known as the instigators of good times and spontaneous dancing, there’s no better way to end the weekend than on a high note. Bring your “irie” attitude and be prepared to get up and groove.
GUITARS NOT GUNS
Guitars Not Guns is a nonprofit organization that provides guitars and lessons to foster children and at-risk youth in a classroom setting with qualified teachers as an alternative to violence. The Contra Costa County chapter will kick off our Art & Music Jam weekend with an inspirational set that truly showcases the healing power of the arts.
DIABLO TAIKO
The incredibly talented and soulful ensemble, Diablo Taiko, will start our Sunday festivities with a captivating performance that highlights traditional Japanese taiko sounds. Their motto, “Dentou, Keisho, tradition, succession”, defines Diablo Taiko’s mission to preserve and share the cultural tradition for generations to come.
SOLO OPERA
“Opera is for everyone!”, proclaims Solo Opera’s President, Sylvia Amorino. We couldn’t agree more. Even hip-hop producers frequently turn to operatic compositions to sample melodies into their works. Solo Opera joins us with a special performance that will mesmerize those new to the musical genre and the many that already admire it. Surrounded by beautiful Spanish architecture and the fountain at Salvio Pacheco Square, this performance will be magical.
katgrüvs
Kat Gallardo, known as “katgrüvs,” is a modern fingerstyle guitarist with a passion for percussive guitar arrangement and composition. The name “katgrüvs” captures her innate feel for “grüv” and pocket, a trait steeped in years of playing in jazz, funk, and rock ensembles. A graduate from UC Davis in Mechanical Engineering, she aspires to marry her lifelong passion for music with creative engineering.
CANVAS Artist LINEUP
16 Bay Area artists painted original artworks on 5’x6’ canvases during the 2-day ART & MUSIC JAM weekend. All of the artworks are available for purchase with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the artist. Images of the artworks will be available on the website soon.
